Did anyone see the Esther Dyson Editorial in the Wall Stree Journal last week on the power of social media, entitled, "The Coming Ad Revolution" ( http://online.wsj.c om/search?KEYWORDS=dyson ). I think it definately indicates where things are going - I was going to do ablog on it; does anyone have any thoughts on how it relates to the car business?

I did see the article and found it very interesting. Social networks (like this very one!) are definitely one of the hottest trends online and I think the automakers are going to put more and more effort towards social media. That being said, where I think dealers will find their best opportunities online will continue to remain in targeted direct response advertising, particularly the search engines. A recent study shows 73% of internet sessions start at a search engine, which is an amazing number. I say this because when search engine marketing is done right the ROI story is unbelievably compelling and in most cases the most efficient and cost effective channel out there. The dealers we work with that are using our services for search engine marketing find the cost per lead to be very low and the quality of those leads to be very high, since people are already searching terms that we've worked with the dealer to identify as good prospects. And the costs to get started are very low as well particualrly when compared to radio, TV and print. I'm curious, if you are a dealer are you trying search engine marketing and are you seeing great results? If you are a consumer are you like most others starting your search for a car online these days?
